Character Information
Name: Prompto Argentum
Canon: Final Fantasy XV
Canon Point: Post Chapter 13, some time after Noctis enters the Crystal. He’s back in Lucis territory and has had some time to recover from the shock and get started, y’know, saving people, and he will be remembering his previous time in the city.
Age: 20-21
History: Here
Personality: Most people will look at Prompto and see a cheerful, bubbly young man with more energy than he knows what to do with and they would not be wrong. Ever since meeting Noct and becoming his friend, Prompto has strove to maintain his upbeat persona, always trying to make the somewhat sullen prince smile or laugh. He get excited about the little things (his favorite food, cute dogs, chocobos) and will try to drag his friends along for the ride whenever he can. Some times he’ll exaggerate his reactions to get a laugh out of his friends, though he’s also just something of a drama queen in general. Perhaps oddly, Prompto is not a very social young man. He’ll talk a friend’s ear off about chocobos or the latest tech, but if given the chance he’ll defer to one of the others when it comes to talking. The few times Prompto is the one to speak first, it’s usually because he’s figured something out before they have...or he wasn’t exactly thinking before opening his mouth.
Underneath the pep, however, there is, as Prompto puts it, a mess of hang ups. Prompto is not a native born Lucian like his friends but was adopted into the Argentum family when he was very young after being rescued from Niflhiem. Though it’s not until late in the game that Prompto learns the entire truth behind his origins, he implies that he’s known since he was young that he was from the Empire and because of the war he never told the others. This, combined with the fact that there was little love lost between him and his parents, left Prompto with a low sense of self-worth and a fear of being left behind by the few friends he has. Because of this, he does everything he can to make people like him; this includes changing his entire lifestyle to feel worthy of being Noct’s friend, despite Lady Lunafreya encouraging it. His anxiety is sometimes crippling, though he usually manages to work through it or otherwise ignore it.
He suffers from imposter syndrome and all the things that can come with that, always afraid that his friends will realize he’s a fake, something which is not helped by Ardyn’s illusory shenanigans on the train from Cartanica that caused Noct to think Prompto was Ardyn and vice versa or by learning that he was originally nothing more than a mass-produced clone meant to become an MT in service of the Empire.
That being said, Prompto’s loyalty to and love for the party is strong enough to get him to push past his issues and carry on (though the clone reveal does send him on a downward spiral that requires a proverbial kick in the ass from Aranea to get him out of). He’ll do everything he can to help Noct on his journey and keep him safe and happy, something that extends to the others. He’s the one who points out that Galdin Quay may not be safe for them after the fall of Insomnia, he’s the first one to demand Ardyn help them when Noct was suffering from Titan-induced migraines, and it’s Prompto who first stands up to Gladio when he and Noct are having it out after the events of Altissia, later telling Gladio to let Ignis decide if he stays with the group and stop trying to make decisions for him.
That latter bit may be seen by some as naive and reckless, but Prompto does genuinely want what’s best for his friends—and sometimes that means doing something that might be a little reckless. Prompto is incredibly kind and empathetic, to the point that he stopped the Regalia to help an injured puppy without warning (whether or not this little emergency pit stop later contributed to the Regalia breaking down is unknown, but it is worth pointing out that after those two incidents, Prompto is not allowed to drive at any point in the game). He knows what it’s like to be left behind, after all, and he doesn’t wish that on anyone else. This is why he helps injured animals and why he pushes for Ignis to be allowed to stay with the party. Sometimes to be kind, you have to be reckless. He’s okay with that.
Mostly. He’s still not a fan of heights, bugs freak him out, and he is so incredibly done with daemons, but he’ll push on despite all of that.
Abilities & Skills: Prompto...is not all that strong or talented, at least not if you ask him. It’s true that, physically speaking, he’s the weakest of Noct’s Crownsguard but for someone with at most a year’s training under his belt (and more likely only a month or two of training before being sent on the roadtrip) he’s much better at fighting than he gives himself credit for. He’s a crackshot with his gun, able to read the flow of battle well enough to pull out his camera and take pictures and selfies without putting anyone at risk, and able to use Niff-made machinery in a fight with next to no training (or instruction manuals). As a member of the Crownsguard, he’s able to access the armiger and summon weapons and whatever else is stored in there so long as the King is alive (and certain immortal hobos don’t screw with it). This also allows him to use magic, though on Eos “magic” is just “elemental energy Noct’s shoved into a bottle”.
About the only skill Prompto will brag about is his photography, a skill he’s built up since he was a kid and one he’s very proud of. He’s at a level where the biggest magazine in Eos will hire him and the others as freelancers to get one-of-a-kind photos that no one else can take and, had things gone differently, he might have become a professional. As it is, he’s more than happy to take photos of Eos and whatever else catches his eye no matter where or when.
Other than his skill with a gun and his photography, Prompto is something of a runner and a total video game nerd. He’s a mostly normal human, after all.
Inventory/Companions: His camera, his gun Lion Heart, his cellphone, and a young chocobo from Wiz’s--same as last time.
Choice: Turnskin (Shiba Inu/Akita/some sort of mix like that)
Reason: Though Prompto himself resembles a bird in both appearance and jumpiness, he’s at his heart a dog person. Despite his anxieties and generally feeling out of place, Prompto is loyal to the death and will do whatever he can to return to his friends when he’s separated from them (after taking a day or two to work out his issues). He’s always eager to help and to crack a joke to lighten the mood when things are tense and he’s basically just an excitable puppy eager to be with his favorite humans and defend them, even if he’s so far out of his depth it’s not funny.
